Perched on a large sand dune overlooking the extraordinary expanse of Praia de Bara, this is a spacious two bedroom property constructed in the traditional Mozambique style, with simbiri hardwood beams, reed walling and a thatched roof. The house is currently arranged to suit our family: the master bedroom has a king sized bed, with an en suite; the second bedroom has three single beds, with en suite. There's a huge lounge area, a large separate kitchen and 64 sq metres of covered decking area, so the property can easily accomodate 6-8 people.

Idylic Barra beach is a long, world class stretch of north facing white sand that runs for about 6-8km, depending on the tide. We are at the eastern end, close to the Barra lighthouse. It's a two minute walk from the house, down the dune, to the actual beach and there are a number of bars and restaurants nearby.
Barra itself is a 30 minute drive from the lovely quiet city of Inhambane, which has its own (small) international airport. Tofu, one of the best known Mozambique beach resorts, is a 20 minute drive. Inhambane, meanwhile, is about 450km north of the capital, Maputo - a six hour drive.
One thing to note: the last mile to the house is a sand track, which requires a four-wheel drive. We also have a retro Toyota Prado 4x4 available to rent if needed and we can also arrange transport from Inhambane airport or bus station.
We bought the house in 2006 and have been visiting from London, England, each year since, so we can offer lets of advice in terms of traveling around Moz and getting the most out of a visit to Barra. We also have a terrific English-speaking Mozambican couple, Artu and Angelica, managing the property when we are not there.
