The People

Kaya MJ and its occupants are lovingly looked after by a fantastic group of local people who help us to keep the house in good condition and ensure you have an enjoyable stay.

Artur (pron Ar-too) is our property manager, in overall charge of Kaya MJ and your stay in Barra. He will probably meet you at the airport, hand you the keys and is your first port of call for anything you might need during your stay. Artur is also a great source of information about the area, and can help you to book activities or onward journeys to other destinations in Mozambique and beyond.

Angelica is Artur's wife, and Kaya MJ's housekeeper. She will ensure that the house is thoroughly cleaned daily, with the washing up done, and can also arrange for your clothes to be laundered for a small additional charge.

George is the house boy, who will tend to the garden and grounds and ensure the water tank is full. He can also prepare any fish you buy from local fishermen for you.

Vasco, Kaya MJ's night watchman, patrols the property between around 6pm and 5am. Barra (and the surrounding area) is extremely safe, and Vasco's presence provides additional comfort during your stay. If you listen hard in the evening you might hear him playing his guitar under a nearby palm tree.
